The growing popularity of Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) hair transplants has inspired significant technological advances in the field of hair transplant surgery – the FDA-cleared ARTAS® Robotic (FUE) System being an important one. It is the first and only robotic (FUE) transplant system which utilises an optical guidance system to identify, locate and extract your follicular units under the guidance of your surgeon during the all-important donor harvest step of a hair transplant procedure.

ARTAS MACHINE INTERFACE
The advanced digital imaging analyzes and tracks each hair to preserve the natural look of your donor. Customized punch sizes of 1.0mm, 0.9mm or 0.8, are selected by your surgeon according to the character and quality of your hair. Smaller punches may shorten healing times, decrease donor scarring and help to minimize any potential damage to neighboring follicles.
Currently, 4 prong punches are used to more precisely incise the tissue and harvest the grafts. This minimally invasive procedure does not leave a linear scar, so you have the freedom to cut and style your hair without any worries. It has been praised for its speed and accuracy. Once these grafts have been robotically extracted from the back of the head, they are meticulously placed into the recipient sites your surgeon has created in your thinning and balding areas.
Another feature of the ARTAS® Robotic System is its ability to create recipient sites, following the unique plan and design of the hair transplant you have discussed with your surgeon. If this option is applied, your surgeon will create the recipient sites for your hairline and the ARTAS® Robotic System is employed to automate recipient site creation throughout the frontal zone behind the hairline.
For larger surgical cases (1500 + grafts), we perform this procedure over two consecutive days. On the first day your donor area is shaved down and the recipient sites are created which takes approximately 3 – 4 hours. This provides our surgical team with a more accurate predication of the grafts needed to harvest while giving our patients a visual demonstration of where the grafts will be placed.
Another key benefit is this jumpstarts the healing the process, releasing growth factors into the zones where recipient sites have been created. The following day, we begin robotically harvesting the grafts first thing in the morning which assists with maximizing the harvest, managing the time required to complete the procedure, maintaining the patient’s comfort, and reducing the amount of out-of-body time for the grafts increasing graft survivability.

Regarding COVID19, we are working with selected COVID-protected facilities who have now reopened. These clinics have started a phased return model for a new normal with various safety measures in place including a limited number of procedures, reduced footfall through the clinic and enhanced PPE for staff. On the day, you will be asked to complete a COVID questionnaire and have your temperature taken on entry, as well as being asked to wash your hands. You will be asked to wear a face mask so that theoretically you are protected and you protect staff members in case anyone happens to be positive whilst asymptomatic.
Surgery Group have adopted guidelines from the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery for use in all clinics taking into account UK law and each clinic has completed a COVID19 risk assessment of the patient journey through the clinic and taken steps to minimise risk, and we hope that by doing so, the risk of contracting coronavirus is significantly less than your weekly supermarket shop, however, it is not possible to guarantee that the risk of catching it is zero, such as in the nature of the virus.
